Normal Pronation

Running Shoes For Medium Arches
Normal Pronation: Definition
Medium Arches = Normal Feet = Healthy Pronation

Pronation: as you walk or run, how much does your foot roll as you step onto and off it? Normal pronation means there is a slight roll inwards for the foot to absorb shock.
Anatomy
Impact and force are spread evenly across the sole of the foot.

1. The heel hits the ground evenly.
2. The foot rolls inwards slightly for shock absorption.
3. Finally, all toes work evenly during “lift off.”

This gait provides optimal shock absorption and stability; and it keeps the foot, ankle and lower leg aligned vertically. That alignment helps spreads stress evenly so no particular area, tendon or joint suffers excess shock. Fortunately, this foot type is the most common, and there are plenty of options for running shoes for medium arches.
Risks
While normal pronation minimizes risks, that doesn’t mean it eliminates risk! The human body did not evolve for intense amounts of running, particularly on hard surfaces, so our feet and legs still benefit greatly from the enhanced shock absorption afforded by a good pair of running shoes. Otherwise, the constant shock increases the risk of shin splints, tendonitis and joint problems.
Recommended Running Shoes For Normal Pronation
Stability shoes or neutral cushioning shoes.

Stability shoes provide light support structures that don’t hold feet rigid, so they can still roll inwards, while still providing enough support to hold the feet. Stability shoes are perfect for runners with normal arches who may mildly overpronate. In the opposite scenario (mild supination), runners will benefit from the additional padding of neutral cushioning shoes for enhanced shock absorption.
